On 14th December 2010, Christian Witt B., President of Schöck Canada Inc., gave young Stefani Roldán a small present to mark her fifth birthday, together with a cheque for 1,000 CAN$. Stefani was diagnosed with leukaemia in April 2010, and since then she and her family have been going through a tough time of chemotherapy.

Instead of sending Christmas cards to customers and business partners this year, Schöck Canada is donating the money to a good cause. "We took a conscious decision to make a donation instead of sending the usual Christmas greetings. We will be able to contact our customers through our newsletter and we can use the money to bring some help to someone in need," continues Christian Witt. The Witt family were made aware of little Stefani through an article in the local paper. The five-year old is suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). Her mother, Lana Roldán, has had to quit her job to take care of Stefani and her 20-month old brother. During the chemotherapy, Stefani is particularly susceptible to illness. There is a risk of infection or even organ failure affecting the heart and kidneys. That is why the little girl has to be kept under constant observation. The medical costs are extremely high and gradually, the Roldáns are coming to the end of their financial resources. Stefani is making good progress and can even walk again. Hopefully, she will find out soon whether she is going to be able to win her battle against the cancer. Otherwise, the only thing that can help her is a spinal marrow transplant.

"We have got three children ourselves. We were very moved by the story of Stefani and her family. We hope very much that, with the money, we can support the family a bit and help little Stefani to fulfil a Christmas wish. Despite the problems, the family remains strong and positive, a truly remarkable attitude. Perhaps this donation might inspire others to help the Roldán family or indeed other families in need. The family could use all the support they can get. My family and I wish Stefani and all leukaemia patients success and strength on their way back to good health. We will remember them in our prayers," concluded Witt.
